| My focus in
painting is upon landscapes and mythical scenes, in a decorative style
with a degree of abstraction.
I enjoy paining in oil on medium and large sized canvases; I do quick
sketches in graphite, ink or water colour.
I was chairman of Abingdon Artists from 2003 to 2009; it has about 100 members. I was invited to join the Oxford Art Society in 2006. I was invited to put on a one-person exhibition in the O6 Gallery in Abingdon; I rgularly exhibit in ArtWeeks. I have given talks on my work. |

My inspiration comes from my homeland, around Oxford, Abingdon and Didcot, and particularly the Wittenham Clumps where I often go for a quick stroll. Other ideas arise from reading classical history and from trips to other countries: Greece, Italy, France, Spain; the Pyrenees are a long standing favourite for me. |

I have been painting since 2000 and thoroughly enjoy it. As a matter of principle I paint from memory or sketches drawn on the spot; sometimes I do an undercoat painting in the field. I do not like to paint from photographs. There is a risk of enslavement to the detail in a photograph and a photograph inhibits thought and understanding. |
